In Oslo its no point dating norwegian men since most of the men there are gay. And if you ever find a straight single guy he is probably metrosexual and is too busy showing off his handbag, doing his manicure or styling his hair.

Generally, norwegians are more comfortable speaking english after 2am, so you might want to think about hitting the bars on friday and saturday nights. If you do meet someone you feel attracted to and would like to meet again you should ask for their number, since most norwegians are way too shy to take initiative, so chances are they wont ask you, even if they might want to. Dress semi-slutty, short skirts and cleavage is fine, but make sure you don't look like a total prostitute, because then guys may mistake you for someone just looking to score.

And whatever you do, don't be yourself.

To TS: You'll find Norwegian men everywhere of course, but be prepared that they are not as outgoing as men in southern Europe. At least not until they have consumed a significant amount of alcohol.

OP, don't believe all the rubbish that's being written in this thread. Dating outside the group of international students is a good idea if you want a perpetual relationship with a local guy as international connections tend to return to their countries after their studies are finished. Perhaps Norwegian men appear to be more introvert than you're used to back home but that's not to say you can't find extrovert internationally oriented guys that would like to date foreign women. And countrary to popular beliefs not all of them drink staggering amounts of alcohol let alone depend on it to make an advencement.

I'd be looking in local student unions and sports societies on campus. In terms of language I don't thing you'll face many problems if you stick to English. Most Norwegians have a decent command of english but there are of course differences. In a University setting it's probably ok, especially if you have enrolled in courses that are taught in english. It would of course be benefical to learn Norwegian in the long run and before you apply for jobs. Altough many companies have settled for english as their official working language you'd still need to know basic Norwegian to interact with local clients.

Nå er planen til TS neppe å gifte seg i løpet av perioden som utvekslingsstudent så forstår ikke relevansen. Å få kjæreste i studentårene er slettes ikke uvanlig, ville tippe det er mer uvanlig å ikke få kjæreste.

There's nothing wrong with the Vågsenter. Out here the air is clean, it's relatively quiet and there's not many metreosexuals dancing around in their outrageous outfits n their handbags.

It's almost like in Twin Peaks, besides here, the norwegians are not leaving.

No actually when I went to SSB (the norwegian statistics bureau) I could read that 50 percent of the population in Oslo from 20-39 are men.

You'll probably find them if you join some clubs, athletic activety, go out to a bar or something at the weekends, ask a friend if they are having a party or just hang out with them. They'll probably know a few guys.
